Private Adoption Dog - Captain

Captain is a 1.5 yr old, 55 lb, neutered male yellow lab and rednose pit mix. He is housetrained and up-to-date on his vaccinations. He is well-behaved and good with kids and other dogs. He is not good with cats.

Captain has a solid foundation in obedience training and is very intelligent. He's had about 12-14 sessions of dog training with Delilah's Top Dog in Blue Lake. He knows how to sit, come, stay and heel (both stay and heel could use more work). He also knows to load up in a car (sometimes he's stubborn but can jump extremely high).

He is very athletic and loves to run. He is also content to lay around the house or in the sun for hours at a time. He likes to be close by when in the house and to just relax in the corner…but he still keeps an eye on everything. As long as Captain gets some exercise every day or every other day he is just fine. He is very gentle when fed. He knows the word "wait" (his current owner uses this when feeding him).

His owner had this to say about him:

A few quirky things about captain...he does not bark. I have only heard him bark when he tries to get another dog to play.... or if he is with another dog that shows him the way...but on his own... he never barks. He is a quick learner. Delilah told me that the only reason he would fail to learn something is because i did not teach him right. Also... i use the command "thats enough" and "mush". He definitely pays attention...and wants to please. He is just still young and needs a little more time to get it all together.... he is super good in cars. He likes to lean his head on your shoulder like a parrot and see whats going on. I would suggest captain in a contained area outside if you were to leave him during the day. He does have some abandonment issues. His name is Captain because they found him tied up on the side of Highway 299 with a bowl of Captain Crunch. At this point i do leave him alone in the house at night if i go out...but not during the day. If he is going to take out his frustrations it tends to be on something leather.... or gophers.

The dog trainer, delilah, the vet on indianola lane, and the dog groomer all told me they would vouch for captain's manners and health etc. If anyone wants to contact them i can get you that information. I love Captain very much. If i were to live in Humboldt County full time i would definitely keep him...I have worked through most of his "puppy" habits and he is close to maturing into a great dog. I want to see him to go a loving home where someone can appreciate how special he is. I think he would have already found a home if it were not for the part pit bull in him... but he cant help that... I didnt want him either because of that when i went to the pound...but spending a little time with him...you can tell how gentle and loving he really is. He is a companion dog for certain. He just needs a little guidance for a little while longer...and then he will be self sufficient. I hope that someone loves him as much as i do and can give him the lasting home that he needs and deserves.
