Private Adoption Dog - Dixie
Dixie is a 3 year old spayed female pitbull mix who weighs approximately 50 lbs. She is housetrained and up-to-date on her vaccinations. She is good with kids but her strength and exuberance may be too much for very young children. Dixie would prefer a home without another alpha female - other than that, she seems to do well with other dogs so long as she is introduced properly. She is not good with cats. Dixie's hip was broken in 2010 but has healed well, and she is currently living in a foster home after being pulled from the county shelter.
Here's what her current foster guardian has to say about Dixie:
Dixie is a smart, joyful girl looking for a great lifelong home. She's about three years old, and weighs around 50 pounds. Some of her favorite things include going for runs, chasing toys, eating raw vegetables (seriously!), and devouring peanut butter kongs. She knows the commands 'sit', 'down', 'stay' and 'shake', and is crate trained. Dixie is full of life and joy, and ready to bring so much love and fun into her new home. She is a bit of a watch dog and will protect her house and family, but she warms right up to people once they are properly introduced. She gets along well with most other dogs (no other alpha females, if you please) as long as the introduction is taken slowly and managed properly. She would rather not live with small animals like cats or chickens. This sweet girl came in to emergency foster care on January 2, 2011 with her eight newborn puppies. She raised her puppies with all the love and playfulness she could possibly give, and the puppies have now all found wonderful new homes. Is it Dixie's turn now? We hope so!
