CATS— Part of The Beverly Duncan Legacy

Beverly Duncan, my mother, died on February 26, 2006. She was a violin and piano teacher for 30 years in Humboldt County. She was a very accomplished portrait painter as well. Art and music were her vocation since childhood, and she studied diligently throughout her life, seeking out teachers who could help her increase the talent given her by God. She helped many people find space in their lives for the joys and struggles of music and art.

Moving from 'southern' Fieldbrook to beautiful 'downtown' Fieldbrook in the 90's, she found that she was overrun by cats. Pregnant cats would appear in her yard, and what could she do but give them food and try to make friends with them? She scraped together money to get both the kittens and their mothers fixed, and worked hard to find homes for as many of them as possible. The 'net result' of Beverly's labors in this field, is a beautiful group of cats that are looking for responsible owners to share the joys and struggles of life. She loved all the cats and wanted them to have a good chance at life. They all loved her very much, and were grief stricken when she died. With the help of good friends, the cats have adjusted to life without her, and are looking for people to live with and to love.

We do not yet have pictures of all the cats, but they are forthcoming. If you are interested in meeting any of the cats, please call Juliana 839-4638 at or email her at mothandrust@gmail.com.

SQUEAKY & BATTY

These two 14 year old cats are sisters. They have lived at my mom's house since they were kittens. I can't remember who their mother was, but she was undoubtedly one of the strays that turned up in my mom's yard, about to have kittens. They are very loving and affectionate. Squeaky is quite vocal about wishing to be petted, and reaches her paw out in case you didn't hear. Batty is equally loving and affectionate, but has the patented 'silent meow'. Squeaky is quite round, and Batty is rather skinny. They mostly spend their time indoors, as befits their Station in Life as professional elderly cat matrons. They do like to go out, but not for the whole day. Squeaky has to eat C/D food from the vet, as she had a problem with Bladder Crystals. Batty still seems sometimes to be looking for my mom in the house.

VITA

The Outdoor Bunny Cat. This 3 year old, black, manx-like cat is petite, friendly, likes being inside and out, and loves hanging out with people while they're gardening. She'll help drag hoses around the yard, has an interest in pulling weeds, and loves bouncing around. She really likes having long pieces of grass dangled in front of her nose and plays in a very charming way. She is quite fond of BARNABY and EPSILON MC GILLIKITTY, and likes galloping through the yard with them. She also is very fond of her sister, GAMMA DUMPLING and likes coming in the house to sleep near her at night. VITA is of course, spayed.

FLOSSIE

A very pretty tabby cat with a unique yet fashionable mid-length tail. She is the sister of FREDDY who was given to a Fieldbrook neighbor shortly after my mom died. She is very cute, likes being indoors, but since my Mom died has been an outside cat. She is spayed.

GAMMA DUMPLING

An Indoor bunny cat, the sister of Vita and also a petite manx type cat. While Vita has a little bunny tail, Gamma has no tail at all. She was rather delicate as a kitten, but is quite robust now, though she doesn't go out, as she doesn't really know how to fend for herself very well. She gets along well with other cats when they come in, and sometimes acts as a Cat Ambassador to more tempermental cats. She loves sitting in a nice warm lap, and likes to have her tummy rubbed. She is a bit shy with 'new' people, but warms up to them once she knows they'll be around for more than the afternoon. She likes galloping around the house and playing with little bits of paper, sneaking up and pouncing on them. She is spayed. She loves her sister VITA and would not mind going to the same home.

CAYENNE
An orange cat with a spiral pattern on his sides, who is Very Very handsome, though rather aloof since my Mom's death.

CLOUD

Briefly named Creamsicle as a kitten, Cloud is a pale orange cat with a sweet round face. He is also a bit aloof since my Mom died, though he is beginning to blossom again. Neutered.

BARNABY (BROWNIE)

This is a very unusual and beautiful young male cat, neutered, with a fairly outgoing personality. He is a wonderful brown color. He likes being petted, and likes running around in the garden.

RUFUS
A long haired orange cat with a prize winning tail. Very handsome. Loved my mom, and hasn't allowed himself to be petted since she died. He is neutered.

CHEVRON

A young white cat, only a couple years old. He is becoming more quiet, but I've never petted him. He is coming closer, but very gradually. He is neutered.

FIERCELLE

The Earth Mother, a stray who had two litters of kittens before my mother managed to befriend and tame her sufficiently to get her spayed. She is likely about 7 years old, a petite bobtailed tortoise shell. She is one of the very sweetest cats now, and loves (like her daughter VITA) to be with people who are gardening. She is very friendly, talkative but not noisy, doesn't defend herself enough and is really wishing for a loving home with a garden to look after.

CASSIE
This is another tortoise shell cat, except with a long tail. She is a beautiful creature but is not tame. She is spayed.

RIVA

A black girl cat about the same age as BARNABY. I believe they are litter mates. She is warming up well to being petted, but is still shy, and prefers at this stage to be petted without being looked at too directly. She is spayed.

CURLY

A white cat, who didn't wear sunscreen. He has ruined ears, is not very well, but loves attention and still has a good appetite. He is neutered. He's very hard to see in the picture on the left, but his buddy the fox takes a great picture!

MAMMA CAT

A lovely grey and white short hair, she is the mother of RIVA and BARNABY. She is not tame, and currently is staying on our back porch, with her daughter. She really would like to go OUT and just be a half wild yard cat. She is spayed.
